  3.             IT'S OFFICIAL!

  7.     Our bags are packed, we're ready
  8. to go. The taxi's waiting.... OK,
  9. maybe not quite like the song. But
  10. Sheri and I now have our Christmas day
  11. airline tickets to Portland, OR. We
  12. will have a great time visiting our
  13. son and daughter-in-law. But on
  14. TUESDAY, December 30, we will be at
  15. the first ever Commodore Micro-
  16. Palooza!
  17.  
  18.   The PLACE is a retro-arcade called
  19. Ground Kontrol, at 610 SW 12th Ave.,
  20. Portland, OR. (See the Run It for a
  21. map.)
  22.  
  23.   The TIME -- 1 PM to 10 PM.
  24.  
  25.   The COST -- $3 for C= People (to
  26. help pay for the band), a bit more for
  27. those who do not appreciate our great
  28. little computer.
  29.  
  30.     Besides C=Luminaries -- such as
  31. Jeri Ellsworth, Robert Bernardo, and
  32. Yours Truly -- we will rock to the
  33. serious SID sounds of [8 Bit Weapon]
  34. -- and other 8-bit music makers.
  35.  
  36.     The Micro-Palooza is more of a
  37. Gathering than an Expo. We'll have
  38. numerous C-64's and other C= gear up
  39. and running with plenty of games and
  40. demos. And we'll have a Palooza of pop
  41. and pizza and talk: Lots of C= People
  42. sharing joys and frustrations -- plus
  43. folks off the street, curious about
  44. what's going on.
  45.  
  46.     Ground Kontrol is an old-fashion
  47. video arcade with all the classic
  48. coin-ops to bring back great memories.
  49. The machines will be pushed back to
  50. give a crowd of 70 or so room to
  51. Commodore to our hearts content.
  52.  
  53.     The band -- 8 Bit Weapon -- plays
  54. c-64's and Amigas, making the SID's
  55. sing! Other 8-bit bands are also lined
  56. up to provide extraordinary
  57. entertainment.

  59.     And LOADSTAR is right there in the
  60. middle of it! I say "is" because the
  61. whole lolla-palooza began with our
  62. decision to go to Portland this
  63. Christmas to visit our son and
  64. daughter-in-law. I figured I might
  65. have time to get together some of you
  66. Northwesters during our stay.
  67.  
  68.     But the week before the Chicago
  69. Expo, I got talking with Robert
  70. Bernardo on the phone. I mentioned
  71. going to Portland. Robert had just
  72. been up there visiting Jeri Ellsworth
  73. and others. They, too, were thinking
  74. of some sort of Northwest gathering --
  75. and everything clicked.

  77.     Robert knew about Ground Kontrol
  78. and 8 Bit Weapon. More importantly, he
  79. got on the phone with both and began
  80. negotiating arrangements. He also has
  81. contacted clubs all up and down the
  82. Coast, telling about the event.
  83.  
  84.     We realize this is all on very
  85. short notice -- and the Tuesday after
  86. Christmas is not necessarily a great
  87. day for schedules. But such things are
  88. buggaboos only to people who think the
  89. C-64 is obsolete!
  90.  
  91.     We'll be there -- and hope anyone
  92. from the Rockies west and the Bay
  93. north (and of course anyone from
  94. anywhere else!) will make this unique
  95. Commodore Pilgramage!
